The inaugural meeting of the Club took place on 19 January 1993. However, it was some 18 months earlier that a group of enthusiasts first got together following a chance meeting at a roadside breakdown! Following that encounter, those involved decided that there was probably sufficient interest in historic vehicles in the area to form a club.
Formed with the aim of restoring, maintaining and above all using ‘historic’ vehicles, the club can now boast a large and varied collection of vehicles among its members. There are those who have long-term restoration projects in hand and others who use their pride and joy as daily transport.
Whatever their marque, members of the Forest of Dean Historic Vehicle Club share the same interest and meet regularly to exchange ideas, swap stories and seek help and advice etc.
Club runs through the summer season help fulfil the aim of ‘using’ the vehicles. Many varied places of historic interest, areas of natural beauty and, of course, centres of culinary excellence (pubs!) make these trips extremely enjoyable and an ideal family day out. We also arrange speakers, slide shows and videos, quizzes or skittle matches for some of our meetings.
